Widow Struggles with Overwhelm

Client Description
Newly widowed mother of three (one an autistic toddler) showed symptoms of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and was repeatedly declining lucrative job assignments, the income from which she needed. Her health was suffering as a result of overwork without recovery time. Suffering from depression, she had not completed the grieving process. She could not complete basic nesting functions (placing pictures on walls) as a result of her children's behavioral issues and allergies. Her deceased husband's things were still spread throughout the house.

Challenge
Create support system enabling client to organize priorities, complete grieving process and function as committed mother and dedicated professional.

Insight
Like many clients, this professional woman and mother was overworked, under-appreciated and suffered from a lack of self-confidence. She was intent on being the best mother that she could be in this difficult situation. She needed a system and structure enabling her to achieve her critical functions and move forward with her modified life goals and responsibilities.

Solution/Results
Working Order initiated a targeted research project to find the client support with the issues of autism, allergies, grieving process, and single parenting. We helped her find the right care for her special child and relocated her husband's possessions into one room where she could deal with the process, time permitting. The remainder of the home was reorganized to provide appropriate areas for children and a retreat area for the client. The garage and storage areas were rearranged to function and support the new family structure. Client requested and received on-going coaching.

Client Comment
"Before you came and worked with me, I was about ready to lose it…between the snow and my computer malfunctions I was ready to go off the deep end…the phone wasn't ringing and no one had offered to watch my angels…You have wonderful ideas and I know this is the best step I could have made."
